Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)


PP - Independent Salary Scale:  Pay dependent upon qualifications and experience:

Full Time/Permanent (37.5 hrs pw) Part time can be considered: 

Grade 7-8 £29,414.00 - £34,984.00 FTE


PhoenixPlace is a specialist independent school for girls with complex social, emotional and attachment difficulties. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Safeguarding Lead to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in safeguarding practices and Ofsted requirements.

The post holder must be committed, hardworking and passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people. You will need to share our commitment to ensuring that all students are, fully prepared and supported for life beyond school.


The right candidate will have:


  • A passion for making a difference to the education and lives of young people within the school and in building positive and supportive relationships with the ability to establish a quick rapport with staff, students, parents/carers and stakeholders.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working in a safeguarding role
  • Extensive knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures,
  • A relevant safeguarding qualification
  • Experience of managing safeguarding in a school or other relevant organisation, including:
    • Building relationships with children and their parents, particularly the most vulnerable
    • Working and communicating effectively with relevant agencies
    • Implementing and encouraging good safeguarding practice throughout a large team of people
  • Demonstrable evidence of developing and implementing strategies to help children and their families
  • Experience of handling large amounts of sensitive data and upholding the principles of confidentiality
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • Experience working with children with SEMH difficulties with a non-judgemental approach to behaviour management.
  • The ambition to progress professionally within an expanding, child-centred school.

  • The ability to be reflective, dynamic and creative in their practice and be willing to work within the values and ethos of PhoenixPlace.
