Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

PHOENIXPLACE - Specialist Independent School for Girls, Camberwell  


Pay dependent upon experience:  

Grade 5: (£23,957 - £25,634 FTE), Term Time (£16,438 - £17,588) 

30hrs pw (8.30am-4.00pm Tues - Fri) 4 days pw, Term time only    


JOB OVERVIEW 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a strong candidate to support teaching and learning at PhoenixPlace, Camberwell.    PhoenixPlace is a specialist independent school (established 2014) for girls with complex social, emotional, educational and attachment difficulties. 


Rated as a  ‘Good’ school from Ofsted, we provide education, nurture and support across key stages 3 and 4 and are looking for a passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant and growing school. This role is varied, and we are looking for an adaptable, flexible and resourceful individual able to cope in a high-pressure environment and deal with constantly changing priorities.  


JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Work under the direction and supervision of the SEN Lead, Head of Teaching, Learning and Assessment (TL&A, and/or allocated teacher to plan and prepare work to deliver lessons to small groups or intervention sessions 
  • Promote pupils' independence, self-esteem and social inclusion 
  • Give support to pupils, individually or in groups, so they can access the curriculum, take part in learning and experience a sense of achievement    


THE RIGHT CANDIDATE WILL HAVE: 

  • HLTA qualification or commitment to undergo training after probationary period 
  • NVQ L3 or equivalent qualification or experience 
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above. 
  • Empathy and understanding of students needs 
  • Ability to maintain a professional manner in challenging situations.  
  • Experience of planning and leading teaching and learning activities (essential) 
  • A proven ability to work on their own initiative. 
  • A high level of communication skills and the ability to relate positively to children and adults. 
  • The ability to use relevant technology/equipment. 
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude. 
  • A commitment to the happiness well-being, self-esteem and progress of everyone at the school
